Cha-cha-cha changes are coming to the area surrounding Howard University / Shaw area.
In early April it was announced that Whole Foods, high-end organic grocer, would be taking residence in a new residential development, slated to be called The Griffith, at the corner of Sherman and Florida avenue NW.
This location will sit just behind the Howard University Plaza Towers.
The opening of the Whole Foods comes after the opening O Street Market in late 2013 which transformed the Shaw area from being a ‘food desert,’ or an area without accessible fresh fruit and produce.
In mid-February it was also announced that a Chipotle would be moving into the Howard University owned and operated “Wonder Plaza” located at 2301 Georgia Ave. NW, Unit A. Other tenants in the lot includes Potbelly’s, a T-Mobile Wireless store, Food Corner Kabob & Rotisserie among others.
Other announcements to the Shaw area include a physical location of Warby Parker, an online venture that produces moderately priced glasses, a new Landmark movie theater development at 8th and V.
